Grantee on the road: Bérengère Brooks

Bérengère Brooks, theatre director and AMA grantee, travelled from Dakar (Senegal) to Tunis (Tunisia) to participate in the 2018 edition of the Journées théâtrales de Carthage Festival. She was in Carthage from December 10 to 16.

Born in France and trained in Great Britain, Bérengère Brooks has lived and worked in Africa for more than 15 years. In 2016, she founded her own theatre company, Brrr Productions, in the hopes of professionalizing the projects she had been leading with young Senegalese actors. Trained in different theatre techniques (forum, street, Theatre of the oppressed), Bérengère believes in theatre as a form of social engagement. Her productions are always anchored in the African context. Brrr Productions works in theatre for development and youth theatre, presenting its productions all across Senegal. Their newest piece, titled LIKING, is an interactive theatre piece on the theme of identity in the age of social media.

Journées théâtrales de Carthage is an annual theatre festival presenting a selection of sixty plays from across the African continent. Bérengère represented her company in meetings and symposia, in the aim of networking and creating new bridges between Senegalese theatre and the scenes in other African countries.

We are proud to have supported Bérengère and wish her much success for her future endeavours!
