Grantee on the Road: Rocca Gutteridge

Today, AMA grantee Rocca Gutteridge is travelling from Kampala, Uganda, to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, to conduct research on the Nafasi Art Space, explore the Tanzanian art scene, and deliver information on the Ugandan scene.

Rocca Gutteridge is an artist and art director. Her background and training being in contemporary sculpture, she has exhibited her work internationally and has produced a number of public art commissions. As an art director, she has engaged in event planning, production, and curation on a number of projects both at home and abroad, including a Japan Arts Trust-funded travelling exhibition, and a large-scale community tea dance commissioned by the Edinburgh International Art Festival. In addition, she has run community radio stations, launched the ongoing contemporary arts discussion network “Artachat” and set up the successful artist run space ten til ten.

She will be travelling to Dar Es Salaam in her capacity as Co-Founder and Co-Director of 32º East | Ugandan Arts Trust, a centre for the creation and exploration of contemporary Ugandan art, where she is focusing on the creation of an innovative education programme, public art and outreach projects and the development of international artistic exchanges in East Africa. The ultimate goal of her trip is to cement the relationship between Nafasi and 32º East | Ugandan Arts Trust. This relationship will lead to the formation of a strong East African network and the creation of a series of artistic exchanges between Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda over the next five years.

We wish Rocca safe travels and a productive stay in Dar es Salaam, and look forward to receiving news of her accomplishments!
