Grantee on the road: Wajdi Gagui

AMA grantee Wajdi Gagui travels today from Casablanca, Morocco to Dakar, Senegal, to participate in the Rythmes et Formes du Monde Festival in Toubab Dialaw (26 December – 4 January). He will be performing his solo piece SKETT.

Wajdi Gagui is a dancer and choreographer based in Casablanca, Morocco. After entering the dance world through hip-hop and tap in Djerba, Tunisia, he began training in contemporary dance and theatre in Syhame Belkhodja’s Compagnie Sybel in 2007. Since 2010, he has been an associate choreographer with the Centre Chorégraphique Méditerranéen in Tunis. His pieces include Halfa Ejej(2010), Corps à corps (2010), Tabdila(2011), Skett(2012) and Barzakh(2012). In the last year, he has been working and touring with Morocco’s Col’jam dance company. Mr. Gagui will be a guest of the Rythmes et Formes du Monde Festival, which is organized by the Association pour la Promotion et le Développement Durable du Dialaw. Launched in 2009, the festival aims to promote art and culture in the region of Toubab Dialaw. This year’s edition will gather artists around the issue of shared land, resources and heritage.
