Maputo-based music educators and AMA grantees Nicolau Napure Feliciano Cauaneque, Americo da Conceição Dinis and Terencio Alberto Tovele are currently in Harare, Zimbabwe to participate in the music education workshops of the Teacher Training Campus organized by the Global Music Academy (December 1-14, 2015).
Mr. Cauaneque, M. Dinis and M. Tovele work as music teachers at the Music Crossroads Academy in Maputo. They are also experienced performing musicians. M. Tovele has been working as a music teacher since 2006, while M. Cauaneque, a pianist, guitarist, saxophonist and flutist, has been working as a professional musician since 1998. M. Dinis, a piano and guitar player, has worked with renowned Mozambican bands such as Orchestra Marrabenta Djambo, Elvira Viegas and Wil and Anibal. Strongly committed to helping develop the Mozambican music scene, all three attend the Teacher Training Campus annually.
The Teacher Training Campus is part of an annual education and training program developed by The Global Music Academy. It aims to develop a new education system for African music and to train musicians/teachers to use it. There are 9 countries taking part in the Campus – Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia. The training will accordingly include music from the whole region and allow the academies to develop within a much larger network. Mr. Cauaneque, M. Dinis and M. Tovele all intend to share the fruits of their training with their students upon returning to Mozambique.
AMA wishes Nicolau, Feliciano and Américo safe travels and a fruitful training
