“Tendai Tshakisani Makavani and Peter Churu, Complete Arts Project’s board chairman and executive director respectively, travelled to Botswana from 10 to 13 December under an Art Moves Africa grant. We met with Mitisong Festival Director Mr Gao Lemenyanne who gave us a tour of his venue and facilities. We then had a meeting at which we discussed the Women Alive: Democracy through Women concept and how our two countries can cooperate through theatre arts in this theatre for development project.
[…]
The highlight was the tour of Maitisong Theatre venue and facilities. Maitisong is well positioned at a public school in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. There is a captive audience as well as the potential for new artists and audiences amongst the student population. Our biggest success was the agreement which will culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the two parties. From our discussions and interactions i twas clear that the issues under consideration are the same across our borders, cultures and ethnicities.”
