Questions about the eligibility criteria
1- I want to apply for a mobility grant but I don’t have my letter of invitation yet. Can I apply anyway?
Yes. While we encourage you to send your invitation letter at the time of application, you may submit your application (application form + CV) even if you do not have the invitation letter. If your application is selected, we will ask you to supply the invitation letter as a condition of delivery of your grant.
2- I am a national of an African country but I live outside Africa. Am I eligible to apply for an AMA grant?
No. In order to be eligible for an AMA grant, you must live and work in Africa.
3- I do not have citizenship in any African country but I live and work in Africa. Am I eligible to apply for an AMA grant?
Yes, but you must provide proof of long-term residence in Africa.
4- We are a group of artists (e.g.: band, theatre company, collective, etc.). Can we apply for a mobility grant?
Yes, but under the following conditions:
AMA accepts applications from groups of 2 or 3 members. If your group has more than 3 members, please send applications ONLY for 3 members. If a group sends applications for more than 3 members, all applications will be automatically disqualified.
Please fill an individual application form for each group member. If a group sends only one form for several group members, the application will be automatically disqualified.
5- As a group can we all apply in one application form?
No. Applications are individual. You must complete a separate application form and submit a separate CV for each group member. If your group has a collective CV, you may include it as well. You may send all 2 or 3 applications in one email.
6- I am a manager for an artist or a group. Can I submit an application on behalf of the artist(s) I represent?
Yes. If you manage a group, you may send all 2 or 3 applications in one email. Please note that all applications remain individual: you must complete a separate application form and submit a separate CV for each group member. If the group has a collective CV, you may include it as well.
7- I live and work in Africa. Can I apply for a mobility grant to travel outside Africa?
No. Applicants’ travels must take place within the African continent, from one African country to another.
8- My art is multidisciplinary. Can I still apply for an AMA grant?
Yes. AMA welcomes applications from all artistic disciplines, including multidisciplinary practice.
9- I am a former AMA grantee. Am I eligible to apply again?
Yes. However, you can only receive one AMA grant per calendar year. If you receive an AMA grant and apply for a second one within the same calendar year, your application will be automatically rejected.
10- I don’t have a diploma. May I apply?
Yes. Applying for an AMA mobility grant does not require any academic certificate or diploma.
Questions about the application process
11- Does AMA charge application fees?
No, AMA applications are free of charge.
12- Can I send my application via mail?
No. All applications must be sent by email to applications@artmovesafrica.org.
13- Can I apply for an AMA grant more than once a year?
Yes, you can apply more than one time during the same year. However, two exceptions apply:
You may only apply for one project per session.
You can only receive one AMA grant per calendar year. If you receive an AMA grant and apply for a second one within the same calendar year, your application will be automatically rejected.
Questions about the granting process
14- I have been selected for an AMA grant to participate in an event, but my accommodation is not covered. Can the AMA grant cover my accommodation fees?
No. AMA grants cover international airfare only.
15- I have applied for an AMA grant but my event has been cancelled. If I am selected, can I transfer my grant to another project?
No. An AMA grant may only be used to complete the project presented in the grant application. You are welcome to apply for another AMA grant for your new project.
16- I was not selected. Can I ask the selection committee to reconsider my application?
No. AMA’s evaluation board committee is made up of 12 highly experienced professionals from a range of fields of expertise. Their evaluations are final. However, you may re-apply for the same project in a different session if the timeframe permits.
