During the Arterial Conference, I was elected to represent my country Uganda and my region East Africa on the Arterial Network Committee. I learnt a lot of interesting things including the fact that ; lack of Government and Private sector support for the Arts is not limited to Uganda alone or Africa but rather a global phenomenon although the levels vary. I also learnt that policies in support of the Arts stayed largely documents on paper requiring that even when it is important to push for favorable policies, there is an urgent need to Network and form strong civic arts institutions and societies at local, regional and International levels to ensure the implementation of these policies. It was apparent however that a lot of training is necessary if Arts Civic bodies were to function. The Conference and World Arts summit also provided me with the opportunity to meet new people not only as friends but also potential funders from which contacts I am optimistic my organisation Amakula Kampala Cultural Foundation / International Film Festival will benefit from. In terms of challenge 2 mentioned above, it was a short coming on my side as an individual which I need to deal with however in terms of a way forward for AMA, I hope that there are more resources available to AMA such that more Artists can benefit from the Initiative. It is such a timely initiative. I am proud to be associated to AMA and hope many more people can benefit.
