AMA grantee Mitchelle Opado is currently in Zanzibar, Tanzania to produce a film about the Zanzibar International Film Festival (July 17 – 27).
Mitchelle is a member of Afro Art Media (http://afroartmedia.com/), an online platform dedicated to showcasing African visual art. Besides displaying the works of leading African graphic designers, painters, animators and filmmakers, the website also features a YouTube channel that brings together interviews and short films covering these artists’ creative processes and sources of inspiration.
The Zanzibar International Film Festival is East Africa’s largest festival of film, music and arts. Hosted every year, it is a vital meeting point for cinematic talent from across the world. The two-week-long program includes screenings, exhibitions, workshops and cultural tours. This year’s theme is “Season of Visions.” Mitchelle will be conducting interviews with filmmakers, editors and screenwriters showcasing their short and feature-length films at the festival. The resulting video will be released on Afro Art Media’s YouTube channel and will accordingly offer thousands of visual artists not in attendance at the festival the opportunity to learn about the films screened as well as the process for participating in ZIFF and other festivals. Mitchelle also looks forward to networking with fellow African media and production companies in the hopes of increasing the reach of Afro Art Media’s programming.
AMA wishes Mitchelle all the best for her travels and a fruitful stay in Zanzibar!
