Alim Kamara, multidisciplinary storyteller and AMA grantee, travelled from Freetown (Sierra Leone) to Nairobi (Kenya), to participate in the Re-Imagined Storytelling Festival, organized by Positive African between December 11 and 15, 2018.
An award-winning hip-hop artist and storyteller, Alim has travelled the world performing and leading artistic, motivational and black history workshops to inspire the next generation. As a Sierra Leonean that has witnessed the impact war and ebola has had on his country, he wishes to make an impact through music and spoken word. His performances has been described as “thought-provoking, charismatic, and captivating.” In 2018, he was recognized by the First Lady of Sierra Leone and was invited to perform for the presidential inauguration as well as the president’s birthday party.
Launched in 2016, the Re-Imagined Storytelling Festival is held every two years and brings together Nairobi’s finest storytellers, illustrators, writers and musicians for a magical day of storytelling. At the Festival, Alim will be leading workshops for budding storytellers. He will be using this experience to support his work with the First Lady of Sierra Leone for his country’s youth and Africans globally.
We are proud to have supported Alim’s trip to Nairobi and wish him much strength, inspiration and success for his future projects!
