Mamle Kabu, writer and AMA grantee, travelled from Accra (Ghana) to Banjul (Gambia) to participate in Mboka! Festival of Art and Culture (January 20-28).
Mamle is a writer, poet and the co-director of the Writers Project of Ghana. She is the author of numerous short stories, including “The End of Skill,” which was nominated for the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2009. Her first novel, “The Kaya-Girl,” was published in 2012. Through WPG, she works to provide a platform for budding literary talent and to strengthen the literary community in Ghana.
The Mboka Festival of Arts, Culture and Sport, currently in its third edition, celebrates Gambian cultural heritage alongside African diasporic creation. At Mboka, she read excerpts of her writing in readings and performances, met with colleagues from around the continent, and facilitated a workshop on young adult writing.
