Kadidja Tiemanta, dancer and AMA grantee, travelled from Bamako (Mali) to Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) to participate in this year’s edition of Dialogues de Corps festival, hosted by the Centre de Développement chorégraphique La Termitière from December 14 to 24, 2018.
Born in Côte d’Ivoire, Kadidja Tiemanta is an emerging dancer and choreographer based in Bamako. She completed her first professional training at the École des Sables in 2015, returning every year since. In 2017, she completed a Master’s in Dance at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers Balla Fasséké Kouyaté in Bamako. She has also trained with Don Sen Folo dance company in Bamako and has performed widely across West Africa as well as in Brazil.
Founded by renowned choreographers Salia Sanou and Seydou Boro, Dialogue de Corps is a major annual event in the world of African dance and choreography. Kadidja developed and performed “Crossing”, a duo with fellow Malian dancer and AMA grantee Bibata Ibrahim Maiga. The piece is a choreographic journey translating emotion, serenity, determination and the relationship between self and other, past and present through bodily movement.
We are proud to have supported Kadidja’s trip and wish her much success for all her future endeavours!
