Va-Bene Elikem Kofi Fiatsi (aka crazinisT artisT) travels today from Accra, Ghana to Mindelo, Cabo-Verde, to participate in Mindelact Festival of Theatre (November 2-11).
crazinisT is a multidisciplinary artist and performer. Performance is for [her/it] “an embodiment of life”: a site of intimate dialogue between artist and audience. As such, [sHe/it] also sees it as a potent vehicle re-examining colonial histories and issues of race, gender, sexuality, privilege, autonomy, cultural authenticity and the politics of power. crazinisT has featured in many selected exhibitions and performed solo and collaborative performances across Ghana, Africa and Europe. [sHe/it…]’s recent collaboration was with the German artist and activist, John Herman at the 2017 Chale Wote Art Festival in Ghana.
The Mindelact Festival is the main theatrical art event in Cape Verde and, currently the most important performing arts event in all Lusophone Africa and West Africa. Launched in 1995, it is hosted every year. Through performances and exhibitions, it promotes exchange across a diverse range of artistic areas, from theatre to performance, music, design and visual arts. crazinisT looks forward to the opportunity of engaging in dialogues around performance and its dynamic interpretations with different people from various cultural backgrounds, and connecting to other artistic networks for possible collaborations.
We wish crazinisT a fruitful and enriching stay in Mindelo and safe travels!
