AMA grantee Joanita Kente Tushabe traveled last week from Kampala (Uganda) to Nairobi (Kenya) to launch a new collection of poetry titled Waragi by Jedidiah Mugarura on November 17.
Joanita is a writer, editor and journalist and is the co-founder of The Hen House, an emerging media and publishing company in Uganda. Together with Jedidiah Mugarura, the author of Waragi, she developed the vision of developing creative content out of the African continent: hence the slogan “Content for the Continent”. As a small start-up, they have big dreams for developing a platform to launch young writers, nurture creative content including novels, films and other forms of creative literature out of Uganda and eventually across Africa.
The launch of Waragi is The Hen House’s inaugural project. Waragi is a collection of poetry concerning the pressures of growing up in boarding school in Uganda under the brutal hand of bullying. It is a collaborative project, written, edited, illustrated and marketed by Joanita and Jedidiah. The Nairobi launch followed on the heels of a successful launch in Kampala.
We are proud to have supported Joanita’s project and wish her much success for the development of her publishing house!
