Dakar based AMA grantee Elise Fitte-Duval is currently in Kisangani (DRCongo).
Elise is a visual artist and photographer. In 2011 she was rewarded the Casa Africa prize at the Rencontres Photographiques de Bamako. Her interest in dance brought her to follow the creation of several contemporary dance companies. In her words dance “is a pretext to capture body language and life of men and society […] and photography is the tool that allows dance to be documented and have a place in history”.
In Kisangani, where she will be staying till 07 August, Elise is going to explore through photography the work and the daily life of some local dance companies and choreographers. The intention of her work is not purely artistic but also investigative and instructive.
The aim is to meet young Congolese choreographers working in a country destabilized by years of war and show how they deal with difficulties of finding room for their art, organizing shows with few resources, raising interest in the local public, etc.
AMA wishes Elise all the best with her work and travel experience.
