Kampala-based AMA grantee Nakisanze Segawa is spending 6 weeks (January 9 – February 25) in Iseyi, Nigeria as a participant in the Ebedi International Residency. She will be completing the manuscript of her second novel, The Yellow Ghetto.
Nakisanze Segawa is a Kampala-based writer, poet and educator with a background in social work and journalism. She has published several short stories in FEMRITE anthologies for Ugandan women writers and is a contributor to Ugandan dailies The Monitor and The New Vision. She facilitates creative writing workshops in secondary schools through the organization Writing Our World. She was the recipient of the 2010 BN Poetry Award.
Ms. Nakisanze’s new novel deals with the experiences and survival stories of women in prison. In Iseyi, she will have the opportunity to work on her manuscript while sharing with other resident writers and also interacting with the broader community. She and the other writers will be conducting reading and creative writing workshops in schools.
AMA wishes Ms. Nakisanze safe travels and a fruitful residency in Iseyi!
